Some search engines penalize you for having duplicate content in a domain because they consider it spam or an attempt to up search ratings simple by stuffing keywords. I never thought about it before, but this can happen if example.com and www.example.com point to the same content. Well, this guy made a handy Wordpress plugin that helps you fix this problem. It appears it only works for Apache since it depands on you modding your .htaccess file.
Princeton computer scientists said they created demonstration vote-stealing software that can be installed within a minute on a common electronic voting machine. The software can fraudulently change vote counts without being detected.
When I’ve been reading about voting machines, and they talk about a “paper record” as a backup, I figured it printed a tape as the people voted and had a little window so they could see the tape and confirm the correct vote was recorded for them. Printing a summary at the end is just a joke (a bad one).
This video shows the Diebold GEMs tabulating software used in the November 2004 elections. It’s scary how easy it is to manipulate the voting results. I think that there should be more transparency in the development of software and hardware related to voting. It’s the perfect job for the open source community and security experts rather than companies that have financial and political interests in tampering with election results.
